Plants, birds and insects

Some 70 varieties of endangered plants grow in the grasslands and wetlands of Kirigamine.

A large number of grassland birds like Saxicola torquatus and Emberiza fucata as well as fritillaries  (a butterfly variety: Argynnini) representative of grassland insects live in Kirigamine.

These facts indicate that Kirigamine is one of the hotspots in Shinshu (Nagano) where rich biodiversity can be observed.

Meadow flowers such as Rhododendron molle subsp. japonicum  in June, Hemerocallis dumortieri var. esculenta in July and Scabiosa japonica var. japonica in August grace the Krigamine grassland, attracting numerous flower lovers.
